Apply to be a Choral Scholar

Applications are now open for Choral Scholarships in the 2026/27 season.
The Choral Scholar role is to enhance and support the choir. Choral Scholars will be able to develop their abilities through performance with the choir and solo performances (by agreement with the Music Director).
During their appointment, Choral Scholars receive:
An honorarium of £300 per term (total £900 for a season) plus extra fees for solos and events
Opportunities for solo performances at St Cecilia Chorus concerts which are accompanied by professional musicians or orchestra
Support for their music studies, singing technique and solo performances from our Music Director Ed Walters and accompanist Ian le Grice
Two complimentary adult tickets for each St Cecilia Chorus concert during their tenure
Responsibilities of Choral Scholars:
Attend the weekly choir rehearsals regularly (Term times on Thursdays 19:45-21.45 at Banstead Community Junior School, SM7 2BQ)
Perform at all St Cecilia Chorus concerts during the period of the agreement
Undertake independent work outside rehearsals if necessary to ensure quality of performance
Provide an approved deputy if unable to sing at a concert
Attend a probation meeting after one month of their appointment with the Music Director and Chair of St Cecilia Chorus.
It is also desirable that the Choral Scholars take part in some wider aspects of St Cecilia Chorus’ activities e.g. a workshop, promotional event etc

We welcome applications from anyone who is interested in these opportunities for both our 2025/26 season concluding on 13 June and our 2026/27 which starts on Thursday 3 September and concludes 12 June 2027.
In particular we welcome tenor and bass applicants as we are currently under-represented in these parts.
